Al Gore

F T L
2 minute read

Many people are familiar with Al Gore as a politician. After serving in office from 1993 to 2001, he has done many other things.

Al went on to gain fame as a proponent of climate protection in 2006, with the documentary An Inconvenient Truth. Environmentalism has long been an interest of his, and he continues working toward its ends as the founder of the Climate Reality Project.

Probably none of this is surprising to most readers. What will surprise many is Gore’s ties to the tech industry.

Al Gore has owned nearly a half a million shares of Apple stock. In early 2017 he bought 70,000 shares through options as a director. That’s right, Al Gore is a director in Apple, appointed to the board in 2003. After getting these shares, he sold over 200,000 shares for nearly $40 million.

Gore is also a partner in a venture capital firm named Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, where he is head of the climate change solutions group.

He is even a senior advisor to Google, being given stock options there of an estimated $40 million.

Next time you see him on Southpark, imploring the people to hunt down Manbearpig, remember the real life (and less silly) things he has done.

Excelsior!
